Scottish Tree and Shrub Seed Collection and Supply

We have been at the forefront of Scottish native tree and shrub seed supply for many years, and have built a reputation for reliability, integrity and "going the mile" to meet customers' needs.

var scotica was originally formed to meet the growing market for seed supplies from wild native trees throughout Scotland, and seed supply remains a core part of our business. We supply seed from a wide range of provenance and species. Our speciality is the supply of seed from trees and shrubs in difficult and remote locations, or from trees where climbing skills are essential. Our customer base includes the Scottish forest tree nurseries Alba Trees plc and Christie Elite, and the Forestry Commission.

Tailor made to our customers' requirements we have carried out collections from:

a wide range of provenance and species. We collect seed at sites across Scotland from species including native Scots pine, Oak, Ash, Gean, Hazel, Willow, Douglas fir and Larch.

conservation value trees. Species such as the montane willow Salix lapponum are relatively rare and under threat from overgrazing. We collect seed from the few remaining high level sites.

timber quality native broadleaves, including Forestry Commission "Plus" trees, selected for their high quality form.

remote and other inacessible locations, including gully woodlands and remote native Scots pine sites.

trees throughout the UK for research purposes. We have collected Silver birch and Ash seed from sites throughout England and Wales for provenance trials carried out by leading UK academic institutions.
